This is a drama set at Christmas time. The action takes place in Dr. Pepperrell’s historic house on Cape Advent, along the Atlantic Ocean in Southern Maine, during the final days of the Advent season in 1999. It is known for its Christmas celebrations, called Prelude, during the month of December. The play centers around a very traditional New England family - Dr. Pepperrell, Mrs. Pepperrell and their son Peter - with a beautiful outwardly facade regarding both their station in life and their marriage. But behind the facade many dark and serious secrets linger, even involving the Episcopal minister of St. Matthew’s church Rev. Dilemma and his daughter, Martha. One of the main characters, Mr. Dexter, an old theater director, has decided to direct one final play, but this time it will be a play off the stage. This play will be for the benefit of his friends, The Pepperrells, who are perfectly cast in their roles. He will try to turn the last Christmas of the Twentieth Century, with the help of Miss Mary, the hired help, and through the wonder of music, into an opportunity for confession of past transgressions, and genuine repentance.
