Detective Roger Weston has been with the Canyon City Police Department for over forty years, and he is well past retirement age. Every year, when another birthday rolls around, his wife June starts nagging him to keep his promise and retire. But he doesn’t. He can’t. He loves his job and if he left it there’d be nothing for him to do. He has no hobbies, unlike June who is interested in everything and has recently become obsessed with researching her family tree. But when his partner, Sergeant Ken Leightner, begins to point out the clues he’s missing, Detective Weston has to admit that the suspicious death of Brenda Babcock will be his last investigation; or will it?
