"A young priest Valentine, with the help of a drunken gaoler and his blind daughter, changes places with his Christian friend David, helping him to escape and meet with his newly-wed wife. Claudius II, Emperor at the time, entreats Valentine to renounce the Christian faith and worship a Roman God. Valentine refuses and Claudius orders him to be beheaded. Supporters of Valentine are gathering outside the prison, bringing cards, flowers and candies. Valentine's last act is to cure the gaoler's daughter, with whom he has fallen in love, of her blindness. He leaves her a scroll on which is written 'From Your Valentine'. She clutches it to her breast as the lights fade.
